Network drives at IMT


J - drive

Adress: \\sccfs.scc.kit.edu\oe\imt

Also accesible from outside IMT via VPN.

  • Archive filing (Archivablage)
    • Save documents made using the IMT template menu (Reports, protocols etc.)
    • Administrators regularly transfer documents placed here to the archive
  • Archive (Dokumentenarchiv)
    • ARCHIV: freely available reports, notes and programmes from IMT, sorted according to year and subject
    • ARCHIV2: classified reports, only visible to institute heads
  • ISO-System
  • CAD-drawings (GDS)
  • Public-folder: Phone kists, room occupancy etc.
    • IT: free software, macros to connect IMT printers etc.
  • Projects
  • SEM pictures (REM)
  • Transfer:
    • Transfer folder to share large files within the institute. NO place for file storage!
    • <2GB per person (maybe exceeded only for a few days)
    • Every employee (students included) can create a folder with his/her last name
    • Every employee has full access to all the data, including writing/deleting!
    • Data older than 1 month can be deleted without notice in case of file capacitiy shortage

U - drive

Accessible from KIT-Intranet (from external via VPN).

  • Personal drive for every employee, not accessible for others except for institute admin
  • Maximum capacity 20 GB
  • Only for important data you are currently working on as backup, not to be used as archive
  • Backed up every night by scc
    • Two versions of every file are kept
    • Second version is deleted after 60 days (same goes for deleted data)
  • Files to be archived should go on local external drive

V - drive

Adress: \\sccfs-home.scc.kit.edu\home

Accessible from outside IMT via VPN.

  • Personal drive for every employee, not accessible for others (not even for institute admin)
  • Maximum capacity 10 GB

Connecting network drives from private PC

  • establish VPN connection (http://www.scc.kit.edu/en/services/vpn.php)
  • in file explorer right-click on Network or Computer and select Map Network Drive...
  • Drive: specify a drive letter
  • Folder: specify the network share you want to connect (\\servername\sharename e.g. \\sccfs.scc.kit.edu\oe\imt).
  • select Connect using different credentials
  • Finish
  • in the pop-up window Windows Security:
    user name: either KIT-E-mail address or kit\username
    password: your KIT password
