Große Mailanhänge - Large file attachments/English
Sending large files as mail attachment very often causes problems since the mail program usually increases the size of the attachment by 50%. There is a very high risk then that any mail server on the route to the recipients will reject such large mails and send it back to the sender. Members odf the BelWü-Network (KIT is one of the members) have the possiblilty to send large files via web-browser with the service f*ex (see below). The recipient then gets an e-mail automatically with a download link. With this service you may exchange files of arbitrary size. If you want to exchange very large files you should discuss with the recipient if his network connection is fast enough. The file on the F*ex server will be deleted automatically when it is downloaded by the recipient or after 5 days.
I propose not to send mails with file attachments larger > 2Mbytes. If you want to exchange files with Users in IMT the best way is to save the file in J:\Transfer in the subfolder of the recipient. Then send the recipient an e-mail where he can find the file and ask him to move the file to a local folder on his PC.
You can logon to the f*ex server via http://fex.belwue.de/fup?locale=english . At first logon you have to register with your kit.edu-e-mail-address. Then you can send files with the web-browser or with the F*EX Windows client fexit: http://fex.belwue.de/fexit.html
fexit is an executalble, which doesn’t need any installation. fexit can send or receive files or directories and resume interrupted up/downloads.
A similar alternative file exchange service is provided by DFN: GigaMove https://gigamove.rz.rwth-aachen.de/help
The web page starts in German but can be switched to English in the upper right corner.
