DAAD Kongressreisenprogramm
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers a scholarship for travelling to and presenting (oral presentation or poster) at international conferences for PhD students and postdocs. It is called "Kongressreisenprogramm".
The following information is just a very short summary and guaranteed to be incomplete. Please refer to the official website.
Requirements
- The conference is abroad
- You permanently live in Germany (you do NOT need to be a german citizen!)
- You work at a german academic institution with the aim of getting a PhD (or have it already)
What is covered?
- Conference fees
- Daily allowance (amount depends on the target country, here's the list for 2018)
- Travel expenses (amount depends on the target country, here's the list for 2018)
The scholarship does not cover the complete costs of the trip. Also, if additional third-party funding exists (e.g. another scholarship) this has to be used up preferentially. Some scholarships (e.g. if they require you to return to your home country after the PhD) even prevent you from getting funded by DAAD.
Application
The application is done online. The application documents exist only in German. Important deadline: Some application documents need to be sent in at least 120 days before the first day of the conference! Other documents (e.g. letter of acceptance from the conference) can be handed in later, up to four weeks before the conference. You can apply for the scholarship every 12 months.
