  • Type:Master's thesis
  • Supervisor:

    Dr. Bharat Sharma

  • Field of Study:

    Mechanical/electrical and chemical engineering.

Job's description

For this project, we are looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious and motivated student with interest in exploiting methods of nanofabrication techniques, printing methods, nanomaterials and nanostructure characterization techniques. The overarching goal of this project will be to produce a MEMS platform, which will allow for the printing of various multi-material nanostructures for diverse applications.

Applicants must have a Masters in Physics, Chemistry, materials or a related discipline. A background knowledge in polymer science is highly desirable. Good command of written and spoken English is desirable.

The selected candidate is expected to conduct research, write papers, and collaborate with other researchers. The candidate should be self-motivated, have strong communication and leadership skills for working in a large team of other research partners.

The specific tasks within the project will be: (i) Synthesis of nanofibers (ii) design and fabrication of MEMS platforms, device fabrication, nanopatterning etc. (iii) Enhancing the resolution and accuracy of the Nano patterned device. During the Master thesis, you will get hands-on experience on, cleanroom fabrication, morphological and structural characterization (XRD, SEM), electrospinning of nanomaterials, having the opportunity to get exposure to a wide range of instruments and techniques.

You will be integrated in the other teams of IMT and within this project, you will use the infrastructure existent at the Institute of Microstructure Technology (IMT), i.e., microfabrication facilities, MEMS fabrication, micro-characterization equipment, electrospun nanofiber production and printing. This is a complete project, offering the possibility to fabricate and test the devices, giving you the opportunity to co-author conference and/or journal publications.
